About
Looking for a career change a few years back, Songa Designs co-founder Sarah Sternberg found inspiration in her volunteer work in east Africa. Sternberg had been thinking about making lasting social impact in a for-profit business. Her travels sparked the idea to create a contemporary jewelry and accessory design line using only locally sourced materials from Rwanda. Today, the company uses 150+ local artisans and staffs 10 in the region.
“We believe in helping Rwandans,” Sternberg says. “They’re getting better at their craft, and people are noticing. My purpose is to help people achieve independence through dignified income.”
