A fourth-generation “junkyard kid,” raised in the scrap trade, Minneapolis-bred Adam Minter ended up on assignment in China over a decade ago, looking at waste issues in one of the world’s most wasteful countries, and he has since dedicated his life to the endeavor, compiling his findings in his new book, Junkyard Planet. Perhaps surprisingly, Minter found many examples of clever and unique reuse and recycling happening throughout the country. “I really felt I needed to address this issue of e-scrap, e-waste, that so many people think about these days,” Minter says. “They’re not thinking about their home recycling bin, but they’re thinking about recycling.”Episodes
