Anna Griffin is the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Coco Eco Magazine, a print publication dedicated to sophisticated and sustainable lifestyle choices, based in Los Angeles. A native of London, Anna’s background includes a career in modeling, journalism and broadcasting, which has taken her around the world from the U.K. to the U.S., Southeast Asia and beyond. Having created the media brand, Coco Eco, Anna oversees a global team of industry-leading journalists, stylists, photographers and contributors, in producing content for print, Web, short film and live events, showcasing the best in eco-luxe living. Projects include working in South Africa highlighting the plight of the endangered rhino population with the Lawrence Anthony Foundation; staging an eco-couture runway show at prestigious London Fashion Week; producing film content distributed on Virgin America’s RED system and the Virgin Mobile platform and curating installations for global brands such as Lexus Hybrid Living and the W Hotel Group. Anna’s passion is to raise awareness to the world’s current environmental and social challenges, by creating engaging and aspirational content designed to entertain, educate and inspire. In her spare time she has contributed to the Huffington Post, and has been featured on NPR, NBC, Fox and CBS nationally, establishing a reputation as a trusted eco-authority and influencer. When not traversing the globe in search of new adventures, Anna can be found rescuing dogs from death row or chilling at home with her two rescue pups, Bashful and Hunny. How did you first get involved in the green industry? I was moved by the fact that we were unconsciously destroying the planet, and wanted to know how to live in awareness yet stylishly. As there was nowhere for me to find that information, I founded Coco Eco. Whilst I was creating the brand, I also moonlighted doing red carpet interviews for the eco-celeb website Ecorazzi.com. What interests you most about being green? I love this planet and am so grateful to call it home. We are so blessed by the wonders of nature, and to now be able to function in this fast-paced, busy world, whilst still being eco-sensitive just floats my boat! There is no compromise anymore. It’s awesome. What is your biggest “green” pet peeve? Green washing ticks me off: When large corporate brands jump on the bandwagon conning the general public, when they’re not truly eco-friendly. However, I also think this is a great opportunity to encourage corporations to be more responsible, and we shouldn’t shame even small efforts, but enroll engagement on a larger scale. I have one more pet peeve, and that is I wish the fashion industry was doing more and leading the way. As the third-largest environmental polluter in production, and one of the top three issues we are facing with waste, the possibilities for leadership are endless for this industry. What green trend is most exciting to you or your industry? I am embracing the overall growth of our sphere and how it is starting to become more mainstream. There are so many exciting things emerging as the industry grows, and beauty, travel and automobiles are rapidly expanding industries that are fun to watch.
