About

A leader in global education and non-profit management, Dr. Les McCabe joined Global Green USA as President and CEO in July 2014. Previously, he was President and CEO of The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) in Charlottesville, VA, establishing the Institute as a leader in global youth education with its signature academic program, Semester at Sea, and managing a $50M+ annual budget. During his more than 20-year tenure at ISE, McCabe was credited with steadily increasing both the fiscal strength and outreach capacity of the organization. Dr. McCabe brings unique sustainability and humanitarian expertise to Global Green, helping the national environmental nonprofit emphasize the human aspect of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. A native of Claremont, California, Dr. McCabe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Irvine, a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Washington, a second Master’s degree in public administration from Seattle University, and a Ph.D. in administrative and policy studies, with an emphasis in global education, from the University of Pittsburgh. After seven years of dedicated service to the clinical needs of children and families in the Seattle area at the Casey Family Program, Dr. McCabe joined the Institute for Shipboard Education in Pittsburgh, PA, when the program’s academic sponsor was the University of Pittsburgh. At ISE, Dr. McCabe helped to establish a sustainability curriculum within the Semester at Sea program, and inspired college-age students to explore and examine environmental issues related to globalization, including ecology, marine environment and climate change. Dr. McCabe has recently relocated to the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles, where he lives with his partner Bill Bridge. He has two children, who attend college at the University of San Francisco and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. When Dr. McCabe isn’t working he enjoys world travel, skiing and staying active in his community.
