Thomas A. Knippel is Vice President, Commercial, at SA Recycling in Orange, California. SA Recycling operates over 70 locations in California, Nevada, Arizona and Texas, with seven shredders and two bulk port loading facilities in Southern California, including scrap metal and iron ore operations.
Tom’s experience in the scrap recycling industry spans over 25 years. He has an extensive background in both ferrous and nonferrous metals, marketing and operations. He has worked in the purchasing and sales fields with knowledge in smelter, foundry and mill applications. His passion for the industry has made him a longtime advocate and participant in all things recycling. He has served the industry in multiple capacities as an ISRI Chapter President, Communications Chair, Chapter Presidents Co-Chair, as well as a member of many task forces (Radiation, Membership, Safety, etc.), and on most ISRI committees including the Audit Committee. He is currently serving ISRI as a Director-at-Large. His volunteerism extends to many other non-industry organizations where he has served in multiple leadership roles.
Tom has a passion for life and love for his beautiful wife and children. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, with postgraduate studies in Business and Marketing. On the side, he enjoys family, travel, art, the outdoors (hiking, gardening, skiing), building, economics, history, discovery, knowledge and life in general.
