Jim Beach is a long time entrepreneur, award winning speaker, nationally syndicated radio host and McGraw-Hill author. In 2022, Jim met Wayne Elliott, the hero of Jim’s latest book “The Real Environmentalists.” Wayne’s story helped solidify something Jim had noticed: the environmental community argued lots and did little. Wayne risked his life every day, sweating and getting dirty to make the world a cleaner place. With the book, Jim hopes to push the environmental discussion in a new direction, centered on the heroes that are working every day to beat climate change.
Back during his freshman year of college, Jim was crew on a Woods Hole based 125-foot schooner, the R/V Westward. Woods Hole, Massachusetts is the East Coast center of oceanography and all related fields. Aboard, he studied the effect of fjord based hydro-electric plants on whale migration patterns. He would graduate with a minor in Oceanography. See Jim below on Westward.
As Jim watched the debate over environmental topics, he grew more and more frustrated that the conversation included so little discussion of solutions. Every solution was bashed by a different part of the movement. Scientists argued over who actually won the 2007 Nobel Prize, many claiming they too were winners. Environmentalists loved a product in mass and lionized the founder, until the founder expressed unpopular political views. Suddenly, the beloved product was uncool. Politics over the environment? Jim’s frustration grew.
