About

Rob Harmon is a serial environmental entrepreneur. He has worked in the fields of energy productivity, renewable energy and water for nearly 30 years. Since 1998, Rob has focused on creating practical alternatives to old, entrenched, counterproductive transaction structures. Rob served for 10 years as Chief Innovation Officer and Senior Vice President for the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), where he developed and launched the first carbon calculator on the Internet and closed the first retail REC (Green Tag) transaction in history. That work laid the foundations of today’s “green power” offerings throughout the utility world. In 2004, Rob was awarded the national Green Power Pioneer Award for his leadership in establishing the retail renewable energy certificate market, and for his ongoing efforts to ensure a thriving and credible voluntary market in the U.S. In 2009, Rob created and launched Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s Water Restoration Certificate business line, which utilizes voluntary markets to restore critically de-watered ecosystems. This business is the subject of Rob’s 2010 TED Talk. In 2014, as President and CEO of EnergyRM, Rob closed the first 20-year Metered Energy Efficiency transaction in history. Rob has worked in the fields of water, energy productivity and renewables since 1987, and has served on the Boards of the Northwest Energy Coalition and Green-e, and as Chairman of the National Policy Committee for the Renewable Energy Markets Association, which he helped found in 2006. Rob contributed chapters to the book: Voluntary Carbon Markets: A Business Guide to What They Are and How They Work. He holds a degree from Hampshire College, and has done executive study at the University of Washington Foster School of Business.
