David Abel, President & CEO of ABL, Incorporated, publishes The Planning Report, which focuses on land use; and, the VerdeXchange News, which focuses on clean energy and sustainable technologies. For the last two decades, David has leveraged his professional experience and interests in civic affairs, clean & renewable energy, water technologies, last mile transportation, urban planning, blue-tech, and sustainability to also create the VerdeXchange Institute – an environmental think tank and host of the annual, global, clean tech and renewable energy Conference, VerdeXchange, which focuses on what is: in-market; about-to-be in-market; and needed in-market .. in the global, clean and green economy.

David presently serves on the executive & governing board of Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation; on the Advisory Boards of both ULI-LA and USC Center’s for Sustainability Solutions; as well as the board of New Village Girls Academy. David has been a corporate board member of both Western Water and SuperShuttle; and served as an appointee of the Los Angeles City Controller on Los Angeles Unified School District’s School Bond Citizen’s Oversight Committee; and, as a public board member of AIA-LA.

He lectured on ‘regionalism’ at UC San Diego for twelve years, and served for eight years as Chair of the Board of Overseers of USC’s School of Public Policy. By appointment, David also served as chair of California State Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg’s Blue Ribbon Commission to Consider Reforms of California’s Initiative Process; Speaker’s Hertzberg’s Commission on Regionalism; and, was chair of former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa’s Commission on State/Local Government Finance Reform. He also is a past Director of Coro Southern California; and, Chair of New Schools Better Neighborhoods. David has academic degrees in economics, urban studies, law and educational administration. He has studied abroad (LSE) and traveled widely. Lastly, in his ‘youth” he also was selected as a Robert Kennedy Fellow (South Carolina), a Coro Fellow (Los Angeles), and, an Education Policy Fellow (Massachusetts).
