As Chief Sustainability Officer at HSBC, Julian Wentzel is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the transition to net zero across the HSBC Group and enabling the delivery of the bank’s net zero strategy. He has a particular focus on supporting the bank’s clients and customers to make progress in delivering their own transition plans by identifying opportunities to finance their diversification and decarbonisation strategies and invest in technological innovation.

Julian has worked in banking for more than 25 years across multiple geographies and sectors, including those that face the most ambitious and challenging transitions. With a proven track record of driving growth and operational excellence, Julian has significant experience in navigating complex global challenges and identifying solutions to enable corporate and institutional clients thrive in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Since joining HSBC in 2015, Julian was most recently Head of Global Banking, MENAT, where he worked alongside clients in helping them achieve their sustainability goals.
